Equality aims to treat everyone the same, offering identical opportunities and resources to all individuals. It embodies the principle that each person, regardless of their background, deserves equal access to education, employment, and other societal benefits. However, the flaw in this approach lies in its assumption that everyone starts from the same point and requires the same support.

Equity, on the other hand, acknowledges the inherent disparities among individuals and strives to address these differences by providing customized resources and opportunities. In essence, equity recognizes that fairness may not always mean treating everyone identically but tailoring support to meet the unique needs of each individual. It focuses on leveling the playing field, ensuring that everyone has the chance to succeed despite varying starting points.

Imagine a scenario where a group of people of different heights is trying to watch a game over a fence. Equality would provide each person with the same-sized box to stand on, regardless of their height. Equity, however, would involve giving taller individuals smaller boxes and taller boxes to shorter individuals, ensuring that everyone has an equal view over the barrier.
